As new people come in to our region, it can often be difficult to get connected with basic amenities such as doctors, banks, schools etc. and quickly start to feel isolated in a new place. The ‘New to Waimakariri’ booklet has been developed for those who may have little or no connections, and provide them with a basic resource that includes five key points of contact for advice and information. The booklet will be made available from a variety of places such as service centres, libraries, camping grounds, real estate agents, community centres etc.
As a resource for newcomers who would not normally receive any welcome information, such as rates information from the Council (i.e. renters, temporary residents, EQ newcomers), we would ask that this resource be given out to those who may find it of need.
If you need further copies please do not hesitate to contact us. This booklet has been developed by Social Services Waimakariri and the Community Development Advisor, Waimakariri District Council.
There are also drop-in lunchtimes for people new to the District at the Rangiora Library reference room, 141 Percival Street, on Thursdays from 12 noon to 1.30 pm.
